Now we know why the recent S. California wild fires were so difficult to extinguish.

So, that’s probably supposed to be “evacuating”. This is from KABC-TV coverage of fires in Malibu where all the plastic people should evacuate muy rapido when en fuego.

Deaf viewers must get a totally different TV experience.

At $240 it’s kind of steep for a cat toy but damn is it ever cool.  The Butterfly is fully remote controlled (check out the video on their site) .  They don’t go into how long it can fly on a charge but I’m guessing that’s the Achilles’ heel.

Modest Mouse - We were dead before the ship even sank  Modest Mouse nailed the title on their 2007 dud, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.  Just a dud of an album.  Especially following their commercial breakout Good News for People Who Love Bad News.  I really gave this one a lot of effort too…I kept hoping I would see something in We Were Dead after just one more listen.  It wasn’t to be.  No worries.  A band this talented is free to drop the ball this once.  MM, your next effort should wow me.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen - Self Titled  You had me at Damon Albarn…but now I want my money back.  The man behind Blur and The Gorillaz was enough to get me to pre-order this “supergroup’s” debut.  The Good, The Bad & The Queen’s self titled album is packed with 12 tracks and every last one is B-O-R-I-N-G.  Sure, you’ll hear a lot of influence from Damon’s past work but ultimately he is just trying too hard to hide the similarities.

Björk - Volta  Volta started out OK with the campy yet pointless Earth Intruders.  But it was all downhill from there as Björk continues to embrace weird over art; style over substance.  I say that having a lot of respect for weird Björk.  Her relevance in terms of pushing the envelope among female solo artists has been spayed by the rough cut & paste edge of M.I.A. 

Next up: My top albums for 2007.  Despite these 4 duds this was a fantastic year for new music.
