Gabe dissin’ PS3

Gabe Newell, the developer genius behind Half-Life, had some harsh words for Sony’s Playstation 3 in an interview with Game Informer:
The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a “do over”. Just say, “This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.
On the other hand he has rather high hopes for Nintendo’s Wii:
The happy story is the Wii. I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everthing that Nintendo is doing.
Half-Life: Orange is coming to both Xbox 360 and PS3 in the first half of 2007 (oh, and Valve is personally doing the 360 port and farming out the PS3 version to EA).

Burn!! I’m glad to hear that Valve isn’t touching the PS3 personally.
I’m glad Valve isn’t doing the PS3 version too -simply because that would delay Episode Two (and the “Orange” package) into 2008. Q4 2007 is already a full year behind schedule.
But it’s Valve. Perfection takes time.
